Give Us Our Daily Protests! Give Them Their Pound of Flesh!

Bashar Al-Assad’s regimes intensifies its internal propaganda campaign with more planned rallies and lies to cover up the massacres perpetrated daily now in several cities and towns in Syria.

Inhabitants of Mouarrat Al-Nouman flee as Assad Death Squads and army troops pour in… Number of Syrian refugees in Turkey keeps increasing… Still now word as to the crackdown in the border city of Alboukamal after two days of military operations by Assad troops… the UN High Commission on Human Rights issues statements critical of violence in Syria… Turkish PM Erdogan calls Assad and encourages him to implement reform…

Mr. Obama enunciated a clear policy four weeks ago. He said the United States would use all its power to stop violent repression and promote democratic transition in countries such as Syria. He said his words “must be translated into concrete actions.” But he has yet to act.
“Syrian army generals are the most paranoid in the world…until the West makes it clear that they view Bashar as illegitimate and they want him out, they will not make the leap themselves,” Abdulhamid told FrontPage. He also said that the structure of the military prevents mid-level officers from rebelling. “[They must] try to refrain from engaging in too much bloodshed, or simply run. They are not in a position to arrange for a mutiny,” he said.
Today, Turkish intervention -- unlikely, as it is -- to bring to oust the troublesome chieftain in the old Ottoman province of Syria might be quietly welcomed in the West.

The Assad regime insists on treating the Syrian people to scenes of mass graves that, it claims, contains bodies of security officers executed by those invisible Salafsit infiltrators we keep hearing about. But it still cannot show a single video of an active combat scene against an alleged terrorist cell, or any videos of actual Salafist captives, other than a hapless individual here and there spinning some fantastical tale to an interviewer eager to feed him his lines. But this should not be too surprising really, the Assads have been fighting against ghosts and windmills all their miserable life, why stop now? Can they stop now?
