As Syria witnesses its largest day of protest to date, Assad is unavailable and his spokeswoman says refugees in Turkey are “just visiting family.”

Eyewitnesses report 50 fatalities in Idlib (35), Lattakia (9), Deraa (3) and Damascus (3). Meanwhile, number of refugees who crossed into Turkey is said to have reached 3,000 and counting.
Assad select army units stormed various locales in the Province of Idlib, including Mouaraat Al-Nouman, Jisr Ashoughour and Areeha. Eyewitnesses report use of helicopters in the attacks. Main roads had been blockaded by protesters in the preceding days. Prior to their incursion into the city, soldiers set fire to local wheat fields. Refugees who crossed the Turkish border reports hundreds of casualties incurred over the last few days as a result of military operations, while vehemently denying any reports of violence by armed gangs.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad knows full well that the popular movement that is demanding his exit is a mass uprising spread across the country, says Ammar Abdulhamid, a long-time Syrian activist who now lives in the U.S.
The Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists constitute less than a third of the opposition, Western spokesperson Ammar Abdulhamid told us: "What's emerging right now is a pretty pragmatic group. One thing Western leaders should understand; Islamists can neither be excluded from, nor can they dominate, the political scene in Syria."… "We still need to keep pushing for army support, and the idea is not to split the army along confessional lines - but to get the support of many Alawite officers and generals," Abdulhamid told us.
We might be heading towards a civil war in Syria, or, to be more precise, a balkanization of the region, but we are not there yet. The violence we are currently witnessing is a strictly one-sided affair and is perpetrated strictly by the Assads and their Death Squads who have so far committed a series of cold-blooded mass murders, one after the other, as world leaders watched and wrung their hands.
Meanwhile, Syria witnessed its largest day of protest to date. Even Aleppo made a good show of it.
