Pro-Assad death squads are running amuck in neighborhoods of Old Homs, killing entire families by shooting them point blank or slaughtering them with knives and, at occasions, burning the bodies of the dead. The “joke” is that, just before the videos began circulating on the internet and airing on Al-Jazeerah, the media office of the Syrian National Council issued and tweeted a statement saying that “after contacting number of sources on the ground in Homs, all reports and rumors of massacres and rape in Karm Al-Zeitun, Adawiyeh and Bab Dreib, can be confirmed to be untrue. We, therefore, call on all brothers, to verify the reports arriving from Homs and elsewhere, before spreading them, because promoting such blatantly false reports is unnecessary scaremongering and does not serve the Revolution.” But the people in Homs and all through Syria have formed by now a pretty good idea as to what and who is not serving the Revolution.
