Death, Havoc & Disenchantment!

Will they or won’t they, agree? Will America support them or fail to do so, again? Is it a conspiracy? If so, for what purpose? And who are conspirators? Can anything in existence, other than our fertile (and sick) imagination, put Israel, America, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia and China in the same camp? Let the wonderers wonder, while the rest wallow in the death, havoc and disenchantment that have long become an essential part of our daily lot. Hollowed Be.

Sharp divisions arise at Syria opposition conference over US-backed plan for new leadership Failure to reach a deal in Doha could further heighten tensions between Syria's political opposition and the international community. Opposition leaders feel abandoned by the U.S. and other foreign backers, saying they are not providing the money and weapons the rebels need to defeat Assad in a stalemated civil war. Washington and others say they can't step up aid unless the opposition stops bickering and establishes a more representative — and unified — leadership.

BEIRUT — The West has raised fears Syria's revolution is falling into the hands of Islamic extremists, but many rebels, and even some peaceful activists, say they are willing to tolerate jihadist fighters for lack of a better option.
… the assumption that civilian activists can turn the tide alone is dubious. Assad has shown he will destroy Syria before giving up power, and has demonstrated his resolve by repeatedly bombing civilian neighborhoods, mosques, bakeries, and schools. Assad's thugs are deliberately trying to stir up a sectarian war that could spill over into neighboring countries, draw in foreign jihadis, and radicalize Syrian youths. Already, outside money is flowing more freely to Islamist militias than to the non-Islamist civilians and Syrian army defectors who fight under leaders such as Akidi. The failure to help the FSA almost guarantees the result that U.S. officials most fear.
“The U.S. has lost a lot of leverage and it’s coming into this particular game too late,” said Ammar Abdulhamid, a Syrian dissident and fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a center-right policy institute in Washington.
